My best friend just got back from a trip to New York and with her she brought back a gift for me: a beautiful scarf. I absolutely loved it because it was the type of scarf that can be worn in a number of ways. It is ultra-soft with the richest tones of gold & red I had ever seen. I plan to use it mostly during this season as a neck wrap or a shawl because it coordinates perfectly with my new caramel wrap sweater. The pattern and combinations of colors gives it a regal look and it was a perfect compliment to my personality and style.
This gift inspired me because it reminded my how much I love scarves! You can do so much with them; tie them around your waist, double them up around your shoulder and the same old drape them around your neck. No matter how you wear it, wearing scarves give you a chance to have fun with fashion and share a bit of your personality and style. In the spirit of the joy of wearing scarves, I thought I’d share tried and true tips!
Here are a few ways to wear your scarves this season.
Scarf around the neck
One of the most popular uses of the traditional scarf is to wear it around the neck. This is the most popular and mod way to accessorize.
To add interest, try experimenting with your scarf knot placement. You can tie the scarf like a bowtie or you can leave the loops out of the design and let the scarf fall like a necktie. For a more sophisticated look move the knot to the side or even the back. This tends to add a sense of elegance to any outfit and creates a smooth neckline.
Shawl on the shoulders
On the days that it is not necessary to wear a covering wearing your scarf as a shawl is most fashionable. This practice, in recent years, has regained its popularity. Whether you choose a knitted shawl or a knotted shawl, gently drape the shawl around the base of your shoulder blades and tie a knot in the front at your chest. You can finish the look by investing in a nice broach or pin to join the two ends of the shawl together. This is a great way to create a designer look with very little investment.
Just waist it!
Scarves make wonderful belts hat add flare to any outfit. Purchase a scarf that is longer than the size of your waist so that you can wrap it all the way around and then finish the look off with a nice tie.
Your scarf belt can have any width that you desire - from the long and slender scarf to the fat, chunky scarf. Play around with a few different styles until you find the style that's right for you!
Tie it Up
Tie a scarf to any handbag to add a flare. The key is to find a scarf that matches the color of your bag and outfit. Use caution when selecting the fabric of your scarf. Keep in mind that silk and cashmere scarves will be ruined if they get dirty. Trust me your scarf will get dirty if you leave it on your bag long enough.
Anticipating that these tips will be useful, you are ready to begin accessorizing with your scarf. Dress up your outfit and be sure to match colors as you hit the stores. Have fun and accessorize according to your personal sense of style!!
